"The Distance Traveled"; two man show, Gene Gill & Eric Bowman

About Eric Bowman:
Among several awards for paintings which include 2 First Place awards from Pacific Northwest Plein Air, Second & Third Place awards from Paint San Clemente Plein Air and a First Place Quick Draw award from Bidwell Park Centinniel Plein Air, Eric has also garnered numerous awards from juried national and international competitions for his commercial art including: Gold medals from the Society of Illustrators and Spectrum annuals, as well as awards and merits from several design and illustration related publications including Communication Arts, Step-By-Step and Airbrush Action Magazine. Eric's art has twice adorned the cover of TIME magazine and will be featured on the cover for the premier issue of the newly re-designed Saturday Evening Post launching this July.

Eric's work has also been chosen for inclusion in this year's OPA National Exhibition in Santa Fe, New Mexico and was also juried into the Sonoma Plein Air competition event to be held in California this May.

About Gene Gill:
Gill attended Portland State University, The Museum Art School (now Northwest College of Art) in Portland, and is a graduate of the prestigious Art Center School in Pasadena, California. During his career he has created more than 300 portraits. He taught at Portland State University and Museum Art School. Besides a thriving career in watercolor painting, he continues to teach, lecture and handle an occasional assignment from Portland advertising agencies. He is a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon and a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society. His recent awards include: Grand Sweepstakes Award, 2008 Watercolor Society of Oregon, Spring show Art Associations Award, 2008 Northwest Watercolor Society, Spring show Finalist, 2007 National Landscape Competition sponsored by The Artist's Magazine. Finalist, 2000 Northwest Watercolor Society, Spring show Award of Distinction, 2000 Watercolor Society of Oregon, Spring show Finalist, 1999 National Landscape Competition sponsored by The Artist's Magazine Award Winner, 1999 Watercolor Society of Oregon, Spring show Finalist, 1998 National Portrait Competition, sponsored by The Artist's Magazine First Place Award 1998 Watercolor Society of Oregon, Fall show First Place Award 1998 Watercolor Society of Oregon, Spring show Grand Sweepstakes Award, 1997 Watercolor Society of Oregon, Fall show.

RECEPTION: Saturday, April 4, 1:00-6:00 pm
This exhibit, entitled The Distance Traveled brings together the work of premier Portland artists Gene Gill and Eric Bowman in a two- man show. The exhibit, opening with a reception on Saturday, April 4, provides imagery of travel, conveyance and contemporary urban landscape, together with newer work that can be described as departure. Gill and Bowman have each had long successful art careers, spanning decades and both have been awarded many prestigious recognition prizes. Gallery owner George Broderick says, "The Distance Traveled explores phases and aspects of the past and present of these two exemplary painters."

This exhibit, entitled “Todo en talle!*” explores cultural connections that bridge political and geographic divides between the United States and Cuba. The exhibit, opening with a RECEPTION: March 3, (Tuesday 5:30-8:30pm) brings together works of 6 artists; Merida, Santos, Pumariega, Labrada, Pozo and Miguel. FREE to the Public.
Cuban art is all about identity and exploring what it means to be Cuban, what it means to be American, and what it means to be part of a global community”.

Unexpected Beauty, Street Views Reception Downtown February 5

Unexpected Beauty, Street Views is a response to an Open Call to Artists invited to submit works emphasizing a fresh perspective of the gritty realities of street life in the city.
Sales from the exhibit benefit Street Yoga, a local non-profit that teaches yoga and wellness to at-risk youth.
Portland artists Becca Bernstein, Shawn Demarest and Gene Gill are among thirty artists to submit work to the show showcases works from both emerging and veteran artists. Bernstein was selected by Southwest Art Magazine in 2008 as one of 21 emerging artists to watch. Gill is an acclaimed veteran painter whose art career has spanned decades. Demarest is a noted alla prima painter who often paints urban landscape "in real time".
